آهنگ «Around the World» یکی از اون قطعاتیست که توی تاریخ موسیقی الکترونیک یه جایگاه خاص داره. دفت پانک این آهنگ رو سال ۱۹۹۷ و به عنوان دومین تکآهنگ از اولین آلبومشون، «Homework»، منتشر کردن. زبونش انگلیسیه و توی فضایی از هاوس و الکترو با بیسلاین محکم و صدای روباتیک قرار میگیره. از همون ثانیه اول، با اون ریتم تپنده و ملودی ساده اما هیپنوتیکش، حس یه سفر بیپایان و رقص بیوقفه رو به آدم منتقل میکنه. یه جورایی انگار داری توی یه مهمانی میرقصی که تا آخر دنیا ادامه داره.
جالبیش اینه که این آهنگ یه جمله بیشتر توی متنش نداره: «around the world». همون جمله رو بارها تکرار میکنه، ولی همین سادگی، کار رو به یه اثر هنری عمیق تبدیل کرده. میشل گوندری، کارگردان موزیک ویدیوی معروفش، گفته که این آهنگ با پنج ساز ساده ساخته شده، ولی همین حداقلگرایی، یه دنیای بزرگ از امکانات رو پیش روی شنونده باز میکنه. این آهنگ قرار نیست داستان خاصی رو تعریف کنه؛ بیشتر میخواد یه فضا و حس رو منتقل کنه، و دقیقاً همون کار رو انجام میده.
این قطعه توی کلوبهای سراسر دنیا حسابی پرطرفدار شد و توی جدولهای رقص کانادا، آمریکا و بریتانیا به رتبه یک رسید. موزیک ویدیوی نمادینش که گروههای مختلفی از رباتها، ورزشکارا و شناگرا رو با حرکات هماهنگ نشون میده، به یکی از ماندگارترین ویدیوهای تاریخ موسیقی تبدیل شده. مجله انامای توی سال ۲۰۱۱ این آهنگ رو جزو ۱۵۰ ترانه برتر ۱۵ سال گذشته قرار داد و بیلبورد هم توی سال ۲۰۲۵ توی لیست بهترین آهنگهای رقص تمام دوران معرفیش کرد.
